Flo Headlam - Biog
Flo Headlam changed careers mid-forties and has never looked back.
Leaving behind the security of a good charity job, she decided it was time to indulge in her newfound passion and leapt into the world of horticulture.
Whilst balancing a young family, and an emerging new self-employed career, whilst continuing horticulture studies at Capel Manor College, London, the opportunity came along to join the presentation team on BBC Gardeners’ World.
Flo presented on the show for three years from 2017-2019, during which time she had the pleasure of travelling around the country and meeting incredible individuals, all united in their love of growing.
Flo’s ability to easily connect with people ensured she quickly established a rapport with contributors. Her warm personality, vibrant energy, and relaxed charm enabled her to ease into the craft with every episode under her belt.
Lockdown was a time of change for everyone, and Flo exited the Gardeners’ World team and concentrated on her private clients and her own garden.
Late 2020 Spungold TV came knocking and offered her the opportunity to join the Garden Rescue team.
Now filming her second series and with a number of wins, she is loving the challenge of each new brief and the chance to push the envelope with her designs. ‘It’s a balance of giving them what they didn’t know they wanted and making the garden exciting and intriguing.’
Flo is passionate about community gardening and is involved in a number of projects in her local area. Having worked in the education team of a national charity before her career switch, she also likes to give back to education. She is involved with a few organisations that take role models into schools to talk about careers and inspire them to think about working in horticulture.
Flo is an Equity Ambassador for BALI and an ambassador for The Great British Garden Festival.
She lives in London with her two daughters.
